FAQ
What is fixed in the price?
Base rate, extensions, bringing equipment and self load-in are all listed as actual figures. Furniture swaps, antique transport and photographer arrangement vary, so they are quoted from a starting price. There is no weekend or late-night surcharge.
What is the minimum booking?
Three hours at every location. A full day runs 07:00-20:00 (13 hours) and is priced as ten hours. Consecutive days are discounted 10% on day two, 15% on day three and 20% from day four.
Can I use two locations in one day?
Yes. The six studios sit within four wards of Nagoya The second location onwards is 10% off.
Can I bring equipment?
Bringing equipment is free. Self load-in and load-out are free and count within your booked time. Please tell us in advance if you are arriving with a large truck.
Can I move the furniture?
Yes, you can move and reposition pieces freely for a shoot. For a bigger change we swap in antiques from our warehouse (from JPY 30,000 / 50,000 / 100,000). Pieces stay within the space.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free until eight days before. 50% from seven to four days before, and 100% from three days before.
Can I see the space first?
Yes. A visit takes about 20 minutes and is free. The texture of hundred-year-old wood and glass does not come across on a screen, so please come and touch it.
Will you publish my photos?
Only with your consent. Declining changes nothing about your booking terms.
What can I book directly on the site?
You can hold a slot on the spot when it falls within 07:00-20:00 on a single day. Up to two locations on the same day can be booked directly, with 10% off the second. Holds last three days, and you can have one at a time. Overnight use, bookings spanning several days, and three or more locations on the same day are handled through the contact form - that is also where multi-day discounts are applied.
How do I book?
Send us your purpose and preferred dates from the contact page. We reply with availability and a total the next business day.
How do I get the keys?
We send entry instructions once your booking is confirmed. It differs by location.
How many people can come?
Rooms range from 60 to 100 sqm. Around ten for a shoot, more for an exhibition depending on layout.
Is there parking?
AZ2 in Minami-ku has parking for two cars. The other locations do not have parking.
How much power is available?
Capacity differs by location. Tell us in advance if you are running multiple strobes.
When is the light best?
It varies. UN LIKE catches low western light in the evening; AZ3 reads whitest at midday; journey has a 3 m ceiling so light falls from above.
Do you have a white cyclorama?
Yes, at journey in Osu, under a 3 m ceiling with three make-up stations.
Is there a make-up or changing area?
Only journey in Osu has a make-up desk. Fitting rooms are at journey in Osu, AZ2 in Minami and AZ3 in Daikancho, and AZ5 in Osu has a gilt-mirror fitting area. All six locations have a mirror, and the washroom can be used for changing and touch-ups.
Is there Wi-Fi?
It differs by location; see the facilities table on each studio page.
Can we eat and drink?
Drinks and light food are fine, but not on the antique furniture. Take rubbish with you, or we dispose of it for JPY 1,000 a bag.
Can I extend on the day?
Yes if the slot is free, charged by the hour at the base rate.
Can we shoot in the rain?
Yes, all six are indoor spaces. Some rooms actually read better under overcast light.
Can I use several rooms in one day?
Yes. The second location onwards is 10% off. The three Osu studios are minutes apart on foot.
Is there a multi-day discount?
Yes: 10% on day two, 15% on day three, 20% from day four.
Can I just get a quote?
Yes, free of charge. We send a total the next business day.
Can you arrange a photographer?
Yes, from JPY 30,000, quoted by scope.
Is it fine for first-timers?
Yes. We recommend a free 20-minute visit first, and we will talk through how to shoot it.
Can I visit without deciding?
Yes. Visits are free and there is no obligation to decide on the spot.
Do weekends cost more?
No. There is no weekend, holiday or late-night surcharge. The rate is the same at any hour.
Can I book early or late?
AZ4, UN LIKE and AZ5 are open 24 hours. The others operate within set hours.
What if I cancel on the day?
Cancellation from three days before incurs the full fee. Talk to us if the cause is beyond your control.
Can I change the date?
Yes, subject to availability. If you are inside the cancellation window, let us discuss it individually.
How far ahead can I book?
Several months. Book early for exhibitions and trade showings.
Do you issue invoices?
Yes. Tell us the required wording when you book.
Can a company book and be invoiced?
Yes, companies are welcome. Bookings made directly on the site are paid by credit card. Multi-day bookings, three or more locations on the same day and overnight use can be quoted and invoiced instead - please get in touch.
Can students or individuals book?
Yes. No registration needed - companies and individuals book the same way.
What does "cheaper the more you use it" mean?
5% off from the year after three bookings a year, and 10% off from ten hours a month or twelve bookings a year. Applied automatically from your history - nothing to sign up for.
Do you rent equipment?
Cameras, lenses, strobes and tripods are yours to bring, free of charge. Fixtures such as dress forms, clothing rails and tables are available to hire by the piece. We can also arrange a photographer, from JPY 30,000.
Can I use tripods and ladders?
Yes. Please protect the floor and walls under anything with legs.
Can I attach things to the walls?
Only if it can be removed cleanly. No strong tape or nails. Ask us if unsure.
What about messy shoots?
Tell us in advance if you will use water, powder or paint, and we will advise on protection.
Can I use open flame?
No. Talk to us in advance if you are planning candles or similar.
Can I bring animals?
Please ask in advance. It depends on the location and the shoot.
Which room suits children?
AZ4 in Hoshigaoka has soft light and no harsh shadows, which suits children and products.
I want a white background.
AZ3 in Daikancho reads whitest. If you need a cyclorama, choose journey in Osu.
I want a dark, constructed look.
AZ2 in Minami-ku. It is built out of darkness and becomes photographic in proportion to the light you add.
Which room has the highest ceiling?
journey at 3.0 m, then UN LIKE and AZ5 at 2.8 m.
Which is the largest?
AZ2 and AZ5, both 100 sqm.
Can I run a pop-up shop?
Yes. Bring your own fittings or swap in antiques from our warehouse. Some uses need prior consultation.
Will staff be present?
Normally you have the space to yourselves. We may attend for first-time users or furniture swaps.
What if I leave something behind?
Contact us and we will arrange collection if we have it.
Is there anywhere to eat nearby?
The three Osu studios sit inside the shopping arcade, so food and shops are a short walk.
